Tess Johnson of Woodbury, a student in Washington, D.C., was accepted for a summer internship with the U.S. Department of State. After having problems obtaining her security clearance despite submitting her paperwork on time, Tess and her mother Donna contacted Rep. Esty’s office. Rep. Esty’s staff contacted the U.S. Department of State to resolve the situation and followed-up regularly on the application’s status.

Tess’s security clearance was granted just in time for her internship’s start date. She spent the summer working in the Office of the Special Representative for the Central African Republic.

Rep. Esty previously helped Donna obtain 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service for her non-profit organization Pink 4 All, Inc. in 2013. Pink 4 All, Inc. offers assistance to women and men of the Greater Waterbury area that are in need of breast health services.

“The first time Rep. Esty helped it was huge, just huge. We really needed our 501(c)3 status for a grant proposal and Rep. Esty’s office was extremely helpful. Second time was for my daughter's State Department security clearance. Rep. Esty’s staff was incredibly responsive and professional as they worked on Tess’s case and kept us posted."
