Ending the shutdown before that point has been high on the agenda for U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-5. On Wednesday, she spoke on the House floor, ticking off a list of economic damage to her constituents that went beyond the loss of $188,000 in SBA-backed loans that ordinarily get approved every day in her district. She also cited contracted air towers in her district hampered by the FAA's closure and delayed benefits for veterans and seniors.
"People in Connecticut are suffering the consequences of this shutdown in very real ways," she said.
