Esty Continues Call for End to Government Shutdown, Vote on Comprehensive Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – Tonight, after House Republican leaders again put forward gimmick votes instead of allowing a vote on the comprehensive funding bill (the clean CR) that would end the government shutdown, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty released the following statement:
“Folks back in Connecticut and across the country are paying the price of Washington’s irresponsibility. Last night was shameful, and the last thing we need now are more gimmicks and games from Tea Party Republicans. A piecemeal approach to reopening government is cynical at best. It’s past time for House Republican leaders to act responsibly – to allow a vote on the comprehensive funding bill that was passed by the Senate, that several reasonable House Republicans have already publically stated they would support, that the President would sign. It’s time to end this shutdown and restore the services and certainty that the American people need.”
