Esty Praises VA MISSION Act Being Signed into Law

June 19, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) released the following statement praising the passage of S. 2372, the VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (or MISSION) Act, which was signed into law on June 6, 2018. The VA MISSION Act contains provisions of Esty’s CARE for All Veterans Act.

“I am pleased to see President Trump has signed the VA MISSION Act of 2018 into law because of its important expansion of support for family caregivers to veterans of all service eras. Since my first days in Congress, I have heard from veterans and their caregivers about the important assistance provided through the VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers. Connecticut is filled with veterans and family caregivers of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and other eras.

“Family caregivers provide loving and essential care to our injured veterans from bathing and dressing, to housework, transportation, and administering physical and medical therapies. Family caregivers are true partners in providing vital care and support to our veterans. It is important we recognize their tremendous service and their worth. As the program was previously only available to family caregivers of post-9/11 veterans, this new law will expand coverage to ensure that families of caregivers for veterans from all eras receive the respect and support they deserve.”
