Bill would call for expanded use of innovative materials in infrastructure projects

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Tomorrow, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5), Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (VA-10), and Congressman David Cicilline (RI-01) will introduce the Innovative Materials for American Growth and Infrastructure Newly Expanded (IMAGINE) Act. The bill would encourage the research and use of innovative construction materials.

Letter highlights concerns regarding oversight of federal nutrition programs
Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) sent a letter to Mick Mulvaney, the Director of the Office of Management and Policy, to express their concerns regarding the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) proposal to transfer and reorganize the oversight of non-commodity nutrition programs including the Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) introduced a resolution that would recognize the need to improve physical access to a number of federally-funded facilities to all people, especially those with disabilities. Esty introduced the measure with Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Congressman John Larson (CT-1), Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2), and Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4). Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) and Congressman Jim Langevin (RI-2) also co-sponsored the resolution.

Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) praised the House passage of H.R. 5649, the Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William `Bill' Mulder (Ret.) Transition Improvement Act of 2018. The bill, which cleared the House by voice vote, included Esty’s bill, H.R. 4835, the Job TOOLS for Veterans Act, which would expand access to job training resources for veterans of all eras and their spouses. Earlier this Congress, Esty introduced the bill with Congressman Ted Poe (TX-02) as a means to help military veterans transition into civilian life. On average, those who participated in the Department of Labor’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP) program found their first job close to a month sooner than those who did not.

Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) remarked on the passage of H.R. 6147, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019, which included Esty’s amendment to increase funding to brownfields projects by $7 million. Esty introduced the amendment with Republican David McKinley (WV-1), which passed the House by voice vote. The final bill passed the House by a vote of 217-199.

Bill would enhance benefits to families of veterans who die from ALS
Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) introduced H.R. 6419, the Justice for ALS Veterans Act of 2018, which would enhance dependency and indemnity compensation paid to surviving spouses and families of veterans with service-connected disabilities who die from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS, also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
