Today, U.S. Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-05), praised the passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act in the House by a 393-13 vote. The bill, which extends FAA funding for five years and authorizes various Federal Aviation Administration programs, also contains amended language to include Esty’s bill H.R. 4673, the “Promoting Women in the Aviation Workforce Act.”

EPA awards $200,000 in brownfields cleanup funding to former Meriden-Wallingford Hospital Site
Today, Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT-5), Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) announced a $200,000 federal grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support the City of Meriden’s brownfield remediation efforts of the former Meriden Wallingford Hospital property at 1 King Place. The hospital operated at the site for nearly 100 years until it was vacated in the 1990s.

Bill would allow for tax deductions for redevelopment of brownfield sites
Today, Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) introduced H.R. 5579, the Brownfields Redevelopment Tax Inventive Reauthorization Act with Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Rep. John Larson (CT-1), Rep. Jim Himes (CT-4) Rep. Peter King (NY-2), and Rep. Mike Turner (OH-10) in order to spur the cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields and support job creation. Brownfields, typically former industrial sites, are often vacant or undeveloped areas where reuse is complicated by environmental contamination concerns.
