Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) hailed the House passage of H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019. The bill, which cleared the House by a vote of 359-49, also included Esty’s amendment to appropriate an additional $2 million to be used to increase funding for the Department of Defense (DOD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office for sexual assault prevention and response programs.

Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) celebrated the passage of H.R. 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2017. Earlier this week, the bill passed the House by a vote of 382-0 and now heads to the Senate for consideration. Esty, who serves on the Committee of Veterans Affairs and is the Ranking Member on the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs subcommittee, is also a cosponsor of the legislation.

Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) sent a letter to the Honorable Peter O’Rourke, the Acting Secretary of the VA, late last week raising her concerns in regards to the March 2018 Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) research brief highlighting the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The letter comes days after reports indicated that the VA is ranked second or third among the worst federal agencies for harassment in the executive branch.

Elizabeth Esty (CT-5), a member of the bipartisan Opioid Task Force in the House, introduced legislation aimed at providing funding to medical examiners and forensic labs that are struggling to keep up with the mounting death toll resulting from the opioid epidemic currently plaguing communities across the country. Esty’s bill is the House companions to Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s (D-NH) bill in the Senate.
